Poker Glossary

Broadway

Either the ace-high straight, A-K-Q-J-T — the highest straight possible — or, used loosely, any of those five ranks (“broadway cards”). Broadway cards dominate opening ranges because they make top pairs with strong kickers and the biggest straights. When several broadway cards land on the board, everyone’s range connects and pots swell fast.

At the table

You hold K♣Q♣ on A♦J♥T♠ — broadway itself, the nut straight. On this board no hand beats you; the only bad news possible is a chop.

House note

Named after the street where everything is expensive. Fitting.
