C-Bet

A continuation bet — the preflop aggressor betting the flop, continuing the initiative whether the flop helped or not. It works because most flops miss most hands (an unpaired hand whiffs the flop about two-thirds of the time) and because the raiser keeps the range advantage on high, dry boards. Size and frequency should track texture: small and frequent on dry boards, bigger and more selective on wet ones.

At the table

You raise A♠Q♦, get one caller, and the flop comes K♦7♠2♣. You missed — but this board smashes your range, not theirs, so a one-third-pot c-bet prints folds.

House note

The c-bet works because most flops miss most hands — including yours. You just bet first.
