Poker Glossary

Nit

An extremely tight, risk-averse player who enters few pots and commits significant money only with premium hands. Nits are easy to read and nearly impossible to pay off — their big bets mean exactly what they appear to mean. The counter is simple: steal their blinds relentlessly, and give their raises the respect they have earned.

At the table

The nit who has not raised in two hours just 3-bet your open. Your A♣Q♠ — a clear continue against anyone else — goes straight into the muck.

House note

Nits don’t lose money; they just refuse to make any. It’s a lifestyle.
