Open-Ended

A straight draw that completes at either end of the sequence, giving you eight outs. It arrives about 17% of the time on the next card and roughly 31.5% by the river. Because it carries twice a gutshot’s equity, the open-ender is a natural semi-bluffing hand — strong enough to bet and raise while still drawing.

At the table

You hold 9♣8♣ on 7♦6♥2♠. Any ten or any five gets there — eight outs, about 31.5% by the river.

House note

Twice the outs of a gutshot, twice the confidence, exact same face when it bricks.
