Pot Odds

The price the pot offers on a call: the ratio of what you can win to what you must pay. Facing a $20 bet into an $80 pot, you call $20 to win $100 — 5-to-1 — so you need to win just over one time in six, about 17% equity, to break even. Compare the price to your hand’s equity and the call-or-fold decision computes itself.

At the table

Flush draw on the turn (about 19% to hit) facing $20 into $80: you need roughly 17%, you have 19%. The call profits before implied odds even enter the room.

House note

Pot odds don’t care about feelings, which is exactly why they’re profitable.
