Poker Glossary

Rainbow

A flop of three different suits, meaning no flush draw exists yet. Rainbow flops are dry by nature — with flush draws dead, ranges connect less, which favors the preflop raiser and rewards small continuation bets. At least two more cards of one suit must arrive before any flush is possible, so flushes are off the table until the river at the earliest.

At the table

Flop K♠7♦2♥ — three suits, zero flush draws. Whatever your opponent is chasing on this board, it is not a flush.

House note

Rainbows in nature: beautiful. Rainbows in poker: nothing to chase, everyone checks, dealer sighs.
