Poker Glossary
Satellite
A qualifier tournament whose prize is entry into a bigger, more expensive event rather than cash. Satellites let small bankrolls take real shots — winning a $50 seat into a $1,000 event is buying equity at a 95% discount. Strategy warps near the finish: when several seats pay identically, survival crushes chip accumulation and ICM pressure hits its maximum.
At the table
Ten players left, nine identical seats. Folding K♠K♥ preflop can be flatly correct — there is no bonus for winning the satellite, only for surviving it.
