Slowplay

Deliberately playing a very strong hand passively — checking and calling instead of betting — to keep bluffs bluffing and let worse hands catch up or pay off later. It trades protection for deception, so it fits best when the board is dry and your hand is nearly invulnerable. Slowplaying a merely good hand on a wet board is how monsters get outdrawn for free.

At the table

You flop quads with 8♠8♥ on 8♦8♣K♦. Nothing can outdraw you and nothing worse continues against a bet — checking twice invites the bluff that finally pays.

House note

Slowplaying: setting the table and letting them season themselves.
