3-Bet

The third bet in a sequence — most commonly a re-raise over the original preflop raise. It builds pots with premiums, punishes wide opens, and seizes initiative; strong players 3-bet a mix of value hands and chosen bluffs (suited aces, suited connectors) so opponents cannot respond correctly to either. Facing a 3-bet, an ordinary opening range has to fold a large slice of itself.

At the table

The cutoff opens to 2.5bb; you hold A♠5♠ on the button and 3-bet to 8bb. Classic light 3-bet: fold equity now, position and nut-flush potential when called.

House note

Three-betting light is legal theft with paperwork.
