Wet Board

A board texture rich in draws — connected ranks, two or three of one suit, cards that smash typical calling ranges. On wet boards, equities run close and can flip on the next card, which pushes correct bet sizes larger and makes charging draws an immediate priority. The wetter the texture, the more action it breeds — and the less a single pair is worth.

At the table

Flop J♠T♠9♦: straight draws, flush draws, and pair-plus-draw combos everywhere. Even a flopped set wants to bet big now, because half the deck changes the winner.

House note

Wet boards are where “I had outs” graduates from excuse to alibi.
